Peacocks Add NCAA Division-I Volleyball Transfer
Sixteen Peacocks Named to 2009 Fall NSIC All-Academic Team To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. The student-athlete must have also reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at the institution represented with one full year completed at their institution. (MORE)
Peacock Volleyball Signs Outside Hitter from Wisconsin Upper Iowa Head Volleyball Coach Shari Robertson announced that Melanie Behnke, from Seymour, Wisconsin has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and volleyball career at Upper Iowa University. Melanie Behnke, a 5'10 Outside Hitter, led Seymour this past season totaling 496 kills with a .336 hitting percentage, 90 aces and 325 digs. In her career, she was a four year varsity starter and was selected first-team All-Bay Conference and Honorable Mention All-State following her junior and senior seasons. In addition, Behnke just recently surpassed the 1,000 career kills. (MORE) Peacocks Lose to Beavers in Straight Sets The Upper Iowa volleyball team closed out their season at Bemidji State University this afternoon. The Peacocks did not finish their season as they had envisioned as the Beavers swept their guests in three sets. UIU closed out the year losing all three matches this week to complete their season with a 16-18 record overall and 7-13 mark in the NSIC. (MORE) Upper Iowa Loses Upset Bid of #17 Minnesota Duluth The Peacock volleyball team took the floor against the #17 Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth on Friday night looking for an upset to highlight the fine season that UIU has put together. Entering the final weekend of the season, Upper Iowa had 16 wins to go with their 16 losses. The Peacocks came out on fire and won the first two sets of the match. After the teams came back from the locker rooms, UIU and UMD battled in a close third set which the home team won 25-21. The Bulldogs dominated the Peacocks in the fourth and fifth sets to complete the comeback and spoil the visitors upset bid. (MORE) Shea Meyermann Named Northern Sun All-Conference The Northern Sun Conference has handed out their Volleyball All-Conference Awards and one Peacock has earned the honor. Shea Meyermann (SR / Camanche, Iowa) was named as an NSIC All-Conference performer. The all-conference team is made up of 18 young ladies from the 14-member NSIC. Meyermann earned her All-NSIC honor after leading the Peacock offense during Upper Iowa's best season in program history. In 32 matches this season, she has registered a team-high 356 kills and a .269 hitting percentage. She has also been very strong on defense with 298 digs and 34 blocks. The high-flyer has also added 30 assists and 24 service aces. (MORE) Peacocks Drop Close NSIC Match The Peacock Volleyball team opened their final week of the season as they travelled to Winona, Minn. for a rare Tuesday evening Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match. After a wild 33-31 first set, the Warriors completed the sweep of the Peacocks by scores of 25-22 and 25-23. The Peacocks finished the match by hitting .260, which included 50 kills while Winona State hit an impressive .295 with 60 kills. However, the Warriors committed five more errors than did the Peacocks and finished with one less block. (MORE) Peacocks Pursue Winning Season in Final Week This Week in Peacock Volleyball... After adding a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victories to their record-setting season this past weekend, the Peacock volleyball team closes out the 2009 campaign this week with three NSIC road contests. On Tuesday, the Peacocks make the short drive north to WInona, Minn. for a 7 p.m. battle with the Warriors of Winona State. The Warriors will be going into Tuesday's contest with revenge on their minds after UIU swept Winona State when they played earlier this season (Oct. 30) in Fayette. (MORE) Upper Iowa Closes Home Schedule with Five Set Win The Peacocks and Wolves took the floor in Dorman Gym for a rematch of their early October five setter in which Upper Iowa came out on top. So it should have been no surprise to fans in attendance that the match in Fayette today would be another very close nail biter. Upper Iowa came out on the right side of another five set match with Northern State, but had to rally from a 2-1 set deficit for the victory. With the win, Upper Iowa improves to 16-16 on the season and 7-10 in the NSIC. (MORE) |
