Upper Iowa hosted Wartburg in a women's volleyball match on Wednesday night in Fayette. The Peacocks and Knights renewed what used to be a rivalry when both teams competed in Division III and the Iowa Conference. Now, Upper Iowa is a member of Division II and a member of the Northern Sun. The Peacocks swept the Knights in three games using good defense and overpowering play at the net. Upper Iowa won set one 25-15, set two 25-21, and set three 29-27. The Peacocks were led by Sara Vance with 10 kills, 6 digs, and 2 service aces. Vance's older sister Keri set up the Peacock attack with 30 assists and added 3 service aces and 7 digs. Beth Deutmeyer and Nicky Brown each tallied 8 kills, while Shea Meyermann had 7. Brown and Dani Coppin lended tied the older Vance for digs in the match with 7 as well. Kim Humpal led the charge at the net as she assisted on all four team blocks. The Peacocks will travel to Kearney, Nebraska this coming weekend for a match up with some of the nation's best. |
