Sept. 1, 2009 The Upper Iowa volleyball team continued their winning ways and pushed their undefeated record to 5-0 with a three-set sweep over Ashford University in Clinton, Iowa on Tuesday night. In the Peacocks' five matches, the team has only dropped one set while winning fifteen. Upper Iowa registered a .295 hitting percentage, while Ashford hit at a .250 clip. The Peacocks won in straight sets by scores of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-23. The Peacocks were led by sophomore Sara Vance on offense. The left side hitter tallied 14 kills in 24 attempts as she hit .500 for the match. Shea Meyermann added 9 kills, while Kirsten Zeise and Maryn Fulton picked up 5 and 4 kills, respectively. Keri Vance paced the Peacock attack by dishing out 29 assists. Danielle Gernes and Nicky Brown led the UIU defense although exact defensive stats were not accurate following the match. The Peacocks once again showed their depth as twelve players saw the court for UIU. Upper Iowa will now prepare for their upcoming tournament in St. Cloud, Minnesota. The Peacocks will travel to St. Cloud State University for two matches on Friday and two more on Saturday. UIU will take the court against Ferris State (9:00 am) and Wayne State (5:30 pm) on Friday, and then return to the court on Saturday to line up with #5 Nebraska-Kearney (1:30 pm) and the host Huskies of St. Cloud (7:30 pm).
