Northern Sun Conference Preseason Volleyball Coaches' Poll Announced

The Northern Sun Conference has released its Preseason Coaches' Poll for the upcoming season. The NSIC is now made up of fourteen universities and colleges that cover Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, and North Dakota. In addition to the ten institutions that competed in the NSIC last year, there are now four new schools which have joined the NSIC from the now defunct North Central Conference. These four schools include Augustana College, the University of Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State University, Mankato, and St. Cloud State University.

The head coaches of all fourteen schools voted in the 2008 NSIC Preseason Volleyball Poll and the Upper Iowa University volleyball team was picked to finish fourteenth overall after graduating All-Conference performer Darcy Hageman and finishing the 2007 campaign with a 0-18 mark in conference play.

Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Officially Expands to 14 Teams

St. Paul, Minn. - Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Commissioner Butch Raymond has announced the results from the NSIC Board of Directors teleconference call dealing with expansion. The Board of Directors, consisting of the ten NSIC Presidents/Chancellors, voted to expand the NSIC to 14 teams with the addition of Augustana College (Sioux Falls, S.D.), the University of Minnesota Duluth (Duluth, Minn.), Minnesota State University Mankato (Mankato, Minn.) and Saint Cloud State University (Saint Cloud, Minn.). These four institutions, which were all voted on individually, will begin participating within the NSIC in the 2008-09 season.

Upper Iowa Finishes Sixth in 2007-08 NSIC All-Sport Standings

The Upper Iowa Athletics Department climbed three spots this year in the NSIC All-Sports Standings. The Peacocks ranked 6th this year, only five points away from 4th place U-Mary and four and a half points away from 5th place MSU Moorhead. Upper Iowa's success is due, in large part, to its three NSIC Championships in Wrestling, Women's Tennis, and Women's Golf. But 6th place could not have been attained without Baseball (2nd), Women's Soccer (3rd), and Men's Golf (3rd), who all had very successful seasons as well.

Peacocks Sign Two to National Letter of Intent

Peacock Head Volleyball Coach Shari Robertson announced today that Sara Vance of Tampa, Florida and Kirsten Zeise of Lakeville, Minnesota have signed a National Letter of Intent to continue their academic and volleyball careers at Upper Iowa University.

Upper Iowa Athletics Department Honors 169 Student-Athletes

The Athletics Department of Upper Iowa University recognized 169 student-athletes who earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll between games of the Winona State-Upper Iowa basketball doubleheader Saturday night. The honored group includes student-athletes, team managers, student assistant coaches, and student athletic trainers. This year's 169 honorees are a new record for total student-athletes honored at Upper Iowa.

New Peacock Volleyball Coach Named

Upper Iowa University named Shari Robertson as its Head Volleyball Coach today. Robertson replaces Dave Jackson, who spent three with years with the program; one as an assistant and two as the head coach. The Denver, Iowa native will lead a Peacock program into the loaded Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) in 2007-08.

Darcy Hageman Earns Northern Sun All-Conference Honors

The Northern Sun Conference has handed out their Volleyball All-Conference Awards and Darcy Hageman (Sr., Decorah, Iowa) has earned an NSIC Honorable Mention.The all-conference nod is the first in the program's short Division II and Northern Sun history; it is also the first all-conference honor that a Peacock volleyball player has earned since 2000 in the Iowa Athletic Collegiate Conference.

Peacocks Lose Tight Battle to #10 Mustangs in Season Finale

The Peacock volleyball team took the floor for the final time in Dorman Gym this season. Upper Iowa welcomed Southwest Minnesota State to Fayette for the final game of the 2007 season. The team honored Darcy Hageman and Keely Jones before the game as the two seniors on the Peacocks' squad. The visitors handed the home team a lopsided loss in game one (30-17), but Upper Iowa played very well in games two and three losing 30-28 and 30-25 to the #10 team in the nation.

Peacocks Fall to Wildcats at Home

The Peacock volleyball team hosted the Wildcats of Waynes State College on Friday evening. The visitors walked on the floor in Dorman Gym and dominated the Peacocks in three games. At times, the Peacocks were able to hang with the Wildcats in game three, but in the end the visitors won by the scores 30-15, 30-17, and 30-23.

Upper Iowa Drops Two NSIC Road Matches

The Upper Iowa women's volleyball team took to the road this past weekend for two Northern Sun Conference matches. The Peacocks visited the Wolves of Northern State on Friday night and then moved on to face the Marauders of U-Mary on Saturday afternoon. The road team played tough, but were still swept in both matches. UIU lost to NSU 31-29, 30-23, and 30-26 and to UM 30-26, 30-21, and 30-25. The two losses dropped the Peacocks' record to 4-24 overall and 0-16 in the NSIC.

Peacocks Drop Pair of NSIC Matches on Road

Upper Iowa went on the road for two NSIC matches in search of their first conference win of the season. The Peacocks faced the Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston on Saturday and the Beavers of Bemidji State on Sunday. Unfortunately, the road team could not find that elusive first win. Upper Iowa lost to Crookston in three games and to Bemidji State in four games. The losses dropped the Peacocks record to 4-22 overall and 0-14 in the NSIC.

Mavericks Defeat Peacocks in Hard Fought Non-Conference Match

The Mavericks of the University of Nebraska-Omaha invaded Dorman Gym on Tuesday night for the Peacocks final non-conference match of the season. Last year, the Mavericks had their way with the Peacocks winning in three as the Peacocks only managed 17, 15, and 13 points in the three games. Upper Iowa was determined and took the court ready to show the visitors how far they had come since last season. Upper Iowa fought hard, and although they were swept by Nebraska-Omaha, the team gave themselves the opportunity to wins both games one and three.

Peacocks Lose to #4 Golden Bears in Three

The Peacock volleyball team hosted the #4 team in the country on Saturday evening. The Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul took the floor in Dorman Gym and swept the Peacocks in three games. At times, the Peacocks were able to make runs on the Bears, but in the end the visitors won by the scores 30-20, 30-23, and 30-16.
