14th Annual Peacock Golf Classic - June 5, 2009 The activities on the 5th will begin at 9 a.m. with registration. Teams will be on the course at 10:30 a.m. with a shotgun start followed by dinner, prizes and awards at the conclusion of play. Participants in the four-person scramble will enjoy free range balls, raffle prizes, flight trophies, a lunch, and beverages on the course, as well as hole contests including closest to the pin, men's and women's long drive, and longest putt. A hole-in-one on hole #9 will also earn that lucky participant $10,000. Many more games and challenges are also planned for many of the holes on the course. (MORE)
Twenty-Five Peacocks Earn Northern Sun All-Academic Team Honors
Peacocks Place Three at NSIC Individual Tournament The Upper Iowa women's tennis program finished up their 2008-09 season this past weekend at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn. After the team's sixth place finish at the NSIC Team Tournament, the Peacocks NCAA Regional ranking slipped to #7 in the Central Region and moved the team one spot out of a NCAA Regional invitation. The Peacocks knew they were heading into their final action of the year last weekend at the NSIC Individual Tournament. Freshman Courtney Romer placed the highest among the Peacocks. The Maquoketa, Iowa native took home second place at #4 singles after entering the tournament as the #4 seed in the bracket. Nicole Henry, who was seeded fourth in #6 singles, played to her seed and finished the year with a fourth place finish in the bracket. In doubles action, Upper Iowa's Betsy Limburg and Romer combined for a fourth place finish at #2 doubles. The pair came into the tournament with the #4 seed. (MORE) Peacocks Place Sixth at Northern Sun Team Championship The Upper Iowa tennis team met the Vikings of Augustana College in the fifth place match Sunday morning at the Baseline Center in Minneapolis, Minn. The Peacocks lost the dual 5-0. The dual ended when the Vikings clinched the win after the first five matches. The Vikings swept the three doubles matches and then posted wins at #1 and #6 singles to claim the victory. Upper Iowa ended the team tournament with a sixth place finish. The Peacocks will return to the Baseline Center next weekend for the NSIC Individual Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3. (MORE) Peacocks Fall in Opening Round Match; Bounce Back in First Consolation Match The Peacock women's tennis team entered the Northern Sun Conference Team Championships this weekend in Minneapolis, Minnesota with the #2 seed after claiming second place in the regular season standings. Upper Iowa fell in their opening round match of the championships, 5-4, to the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State. After the loss, Upper Iowa bounced back and stayed in the hunt for fifth place in the tournament with a win over the Bulldogs of Minnesota Duluth, 5-4. (MORE) Peacock Women's Golf and Tennis Teams Set For Conference Championships Both the Peacock women's golf and tennis teams will be competing for conference hardware this weekend. The women's golf team currently sits in fourth place midway through the NSIC Championships. Upper Iowa will tee-off trailing by 19 strokes to Concordia-St. Paul as they seek their third straight Northern Sun title. Rochelle Schmidt is tied for the individual lead with two other golfers. The second half of the NSIC Championships will be played at Brookings Country Club in Brookings, South Dakota on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 25 and 26. The UIU women's tennis team will compete in the inaugural NSIC Women's Tennis Team Championship as the #2 seed. The Peacocks finished the regular season at 9-2 and will look to take a run at the automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. Upper Iowa will face the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State, the #7 seed at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The championship will be held at the Baseline Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 25 and 26. UIU won the regular season match up, 5-4. (MORE) Upper Iowa Signs Future Peacock from Star Prairie Upper Iowa Head Women's Tennis Coach Chad Fenwick announced the signing of Ashley Peterson to a National Letter of Intent for the 2009-10 season. Peterson, a Star Prairie, Wisconsin native, will graduate from New Richmond High School this May. Ashley is a three-year varsity letter winner in tennis. As a senior, she was the captain of the tennis team and played #1 doubles. In addition to tennis, Ashley earned two varsity letters in softball as well as four letters in band. She plans to major in the Physical Education field. (MORE) Women's Tennis Signs Highly-Touted Prep Chad Fenwick, the Upper Iowa Head Women's Tennis Coach, announced that Anastasija Dabiza has signed a national letter of intent for the 2009-2010 season to compete for the Peacock women's tennis team. Dabiza, a Skokie, Illinois native, comes to Upper Iowa from Niles North High School. During her high school career, she qualified for the Illinois State Tournament three times, finished as the runner-up at the sectionals level in her junior and senior seasons, was named as an All-Conference performer all four years of high school, and was named her team's most valuable player. Dabiza is a 3-Star Recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net. She is currently ranked as the 44th best senior in the Great Lakes Region and the 15th best senior in Illinois. (MORE) Upper Iowa Claims Second Place in NSIC Regular Season Standings The Peacock tennis team capped off a busy weekend of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contests by going 3-0 for the weekend and jumping up to second place in the regular season standings. Upper Iowa and Minnesota State are tied for second place in the NSIC at 9-2; but thanks to the Peacocks win over the Mavericks on Saturday, UIU holds the tiebreaker for seeding in the NSIC Dual Championships coming up this weekend. On Friday, the Peacocks were able to make up a dual with MSU Moorhead in Owatonna, Minnesota that was postponed from earlier in the season due to flooding along the Missouri River. Upper Iowa won all three doubles matches and then took four of the six singles matches to claim the 7-2 victory. On Saturday, Upper Iowa, the #8 ranked team in the NCAA Central Region, defeated two other ranked teams in the region; Minnesota State (#4) and Minnesota Duluth (#10). The Mavericks took two of the three doubles matches, but the Peacocks rallied to win four of the six singles matches including the #3, #4, #5, and #6 matches. UIU won the dual 5-4. Following the match with Minnesota State, Upper Iowa faced Minnesota Duluth and defeated the Bulldogs, 6-3. The Peacocks took two doubles matches and four of the six singles matches to conclude their regular season having won seven straight duals. (MORE) |
