Against St. Francis, Upper Iowa won two of the three doubles matches again. Huisman and Kelley dominated in an 8-0 performance; Rodewald and Cox won 8-3; and Lilly and Klocke lost 8-6. The Peacocks once again took their 2-1 lead into the singles competition, but failed to hold the lead. St. Francis won 4 of the 6 singles matches, but they had some help from a back injury to Huisman. The UIU #1 dominated the first set 6-2, then suffered a back injury and while trying to battle through the second set stiffened up. She lost the second set 6-4 and could not continue to a third set and lost the match. #2 Montgomery raised her singles record to 3-1 in a 0-6, 6-1, 6-4 win. #3 Cox improved her record to 2-2 with a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 win. #4 Kelley fell to 2-2 after losing 6-0, 6-2. #5 Rodewald’s record fell to 2-2 in a 6-3, 6-4 loss. #6 Lilly lost in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, in her first singles match. After the matches Coach Chad Fenwick said, “We played well; and we were in both matches until the very end. We were successful in our doubles match ups, winning two out of the three doubles matches against both schools. It was unfortunate that Kasey (Huisman) suffered an injury after her commanding performance in the first set of her singles match. I can’t really point the finger at any area, of either the matches, where we didn’t have the effort to win. We just came up a little short on points between injuries and inexperience.” The Peacocks take the court again on the 22nd and 23rd of September at the ITA Regional in Topeka, Kansas. |
