Women’s Tennis earned their first victory in the Division II era with a dominating 9-0 performance verse Clarke College in Fayette yesterday.

Upper Iowa won all three doubles matches convincingly. Kasey Huisman (FR/Aplington, IA) and Erin Kelley (FR/Rockford, IL) won 8-2; Katie Rodewald (JR/Andover, MN) and Mallery Cox (Anchorage, AK) won 8-3; and Shelby Lilly (FR/Milton, WI) and Molly Klocke (FR/Dixon, IL) won 8-1.

The Peacocks continued their winning ways with a sweep in the singles competition. All the matches were won in straight sets. Upper Iowa’s #1 Kasey Huisman raised her singles record to 2-0 by winning 6-2, 5-2 (Retired). #2 Kelsey Montgomery (FR/Stewartville, MN) evened her singles record at 1-1 in a 6-4, 6-1 win. #3 Mallery Cox brought her singles record to 1-1 in a 7-5, 6-0 victory. #4 Erin Kelley improved to 2-0 with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 performance. #5 Katie Rodewald evened her record at 1-1 by winning 6-3, 6-3. #6 Stephanie Johnson (SR/Columbia Heights, MN) won her first singles match of the season 6-0, 6-1.

After the matches Coach Chad Fenwick said, “Kasey Huisman and Erin Kelly were dominant in singles again and teamed up to make a tough doubles combo. We played much better today than we did against Wartburg on Tuesday. I think that we were able to get rid of some of the freshman jitters that we encountered during our first match. I’m excited about our double dual on Saturday. It will be our first experience against a Division II opponent. I think that we will match up well with both teams. I hope that we are able to keep the momentum from tonight’s win going.”

The Peacocks take the court again this weekend at the Lewis University (IL) Invite this Saturday afternoon. Upper Iowa will face off against Lewis University at 10 a.m. and the University of Saint Francis at 2 p.m.
