The Upper Iowa women's tennis team continues to impress in their first season in the Northern Sun Conference. After snow and winter weather moved their final home match of the season indoors to Waterloo, the Peacocks dismantled and dominated the Beavers of Bemidji State, 9-0. The vicotry improves UIU's overall record to 4-9 and 2-1 in the NSIC.
Kasey Huisman and Erin Kelley won the #1 doubles match 8-1. Kelsey Montgomery and Mallery Cox were victorious at #2 doubles 8-4, while Shelby Lilly and Katie Rodewald picked up a convincing 8-2 victory at #3 doubles. Huisman won 6-2, 6-1 in singles. Montgomery extended her winning streak in singles to six with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Cox won 6-1, 6-1, while Kelley struggled a little as she worked through an injury to win 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 10-8. Faith Atherton grabbed a win at #5 singles 6-3, 6-1, and Stephanie Johnson won at #6 6-3, 6-0. Johnson is the lone senior in the program and played her final match at "home" for Upper Iowa today. The team is scheduled to travel to Moorhead, Minnesota for matches with MSU-Moorhead and Mary on Saturday and then a match with UM-Crookston at Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minnesota on Sunday. |
