The Upper Iowa women's tennis team was back in action Friday, Feb. 15, as they played host to Minnesota State, a future-NSIC opponent, at the Blackhawk Tennis Center in Waterloo, Iowa. The Peacocks lost the match to the Mavericks 7-2.

The Peacocks began the doubles matches well leading all three matches at the midway point. The Mavericks found their groove and rallied in all three matches and post a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. Jennifer Bradfield and Erin Kelley were defeated in a close match 8-6; Mallory Cox and Kelsey Montgomery lost a tight match 9-8 (8-6); and Kasey Huisman and Betsy Limburg were beaten 8-5.

Individually, the Peacocks posted two victories in singles as Jennifer Bradfield rallied to defeat her opponent, Kate Maland, 0-6, 6-3, 13-11 and Kasey Huisman won decisively over Sarah Westman, 6-3, 6-4.

Those victories would be the only two for the Peacocks on the evening as Mallery Cox lost her match 6-2, 6-4. Kelsey Montgomery dropped her match 6-1, 6-1; while Erin Kelley lost her match 6-2, 6-1. Betsy Limburg dropped the final match for the Peacocks 6-0, 6-1.

"All-in-all we can take some positives out of the meet with wins by Jennifer and Kasey in singles, but our doubles play really let us down tonight," said Coach Fenwick following the match. "It's extremely difficult to win a meet going into the singles down 0-3. We battled, but it was too much of a deficit to overcome."

The Peacocks will now take their 0-3 record in spring action on the road Friday, Feb. 22, as they travel to the Baseline Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota to battle conference opponent MSU Moorhead. The doubles matches are slated to start at noon.
