Christina Missildine has been named as the Head Softball Coach at Upper Iowa University.
“We are pleased to announce Christina Missildine as our Head Softball Coach. Since taking over the team in the middle of this past season, she was able to bring the program to a point where they qualified for the post season NSIC tournament. She also led the team to a victory over the previously undefeated conference champion on their home field. Her knowledge and background in softball gives our program a real boost,” said Gil Cloud, Upper Iowa Athletic Director. Missildine was named the interim head coach when Brent Kuker stepped down early in the 2007 season. The Peacocks finished the 2007 campaign with a 19-32 record overall and a 10-8 mark, tied for 4th, in their inaugural season in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The team qualified for the NSIC Tournament as the #4 seed and finished the tournament 1-2 after they were eliminated by runner-up Winona State. The Peacocks were the only conference team to defeat the regular season and tournament champion Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State. "I am excited to be named the new Head Women's Softball Coach at Upper Iowa University. It has always been my goal to become a head coach and after three years as the assistant with the program, it means a lot to be able to continue to build on what Brent Kuker worked hard to establish. This program has already made an impact in the Northern Sun Conference and I believe with the core group of student-athletes on the team, we will continue to have success and reach our goal of winning the conference title,” said Missildine. She continued, “I am very proud to be a part of this team. Last season we went through a lot together and I feel like we are a family. I cannot express how much this group means to me and I look forward to next season. I want to thank Coach Kuker for everything he did for me as his assistant and Gil Cloud for giving me the opportunity that I have always dreamed of." Missildine began her career at Upper Iowa when she was hired as the assistant softball coach in November 2004. She joined the Peacocks after serving as a Graduate Assistant Coach with the St. Cloud State University softball team. With Missildine on staff, St. Cloud State won two North Central Conference championships, won the 2004 Regional Championship and finished third at the NCAA Division II National Championships. The coaching staff at St. Cloud State was named the Speedline/NFCA Division II North Central Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 2004. Born and raised in Sacramento, Calif., Missildine played softball at Sacramento City College before moving onto the University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D. Her team at the University of Mary won two regional championships and made appearances at the NAIA Championships. Missildine earned her Bachelor of Science in Social and Behavioral Science from University of Mary. She also has her Master's Degree in Physical Education from St. Cloud State. |
