The Peacock Women’s Soccer Team hosted the University of Minnesota-Crookston today in a match up of NSIC teams. The Peacocks dropped the match after giving up a goal in the 61st minute to Alyssa Jensen, a Golden Eagle forward. After the match, Upper Iowa’s overall record fell to 6-9-2 and their NSIC record fell to 2-5-1.
The Peacocks controlled the ball for most of the game, as the Golden Eagles were content to play defense and take the occasional run at the Peacock defense. Upper Iowa out shot Crookston 29 to 5 and earned a 12 to 1 advantage in corner kicks. The Peacock offense was frustrated all game by the wind and Athena Mussenden, the Golden Eagle goalie, who made 13 saves on the afternoon. Erica Baedke fired 4 shots on goal. Jodee Loterbauer finished with 3 shots on goal, while Jennifer Lee and Erin Rehfeldt each had 2 shots on goal. Amy Campbell added 4 shots but all sailed over the goal. Lauren Smith took one of the best chances of the afternoon late in the match; the bullet off Smith's foot was snatched out of the air by Mussenden. Upper Iowa will take to Pattison Field in Fayette again on Wednesday, the 18th, verse Lewis University at 2 p.m. |
