The Peacock women’s soccer team found the net three times in their non-conference defeat of the Vikings of Augustana College. The two teams entered the game looking for their fourth wins of the season, but it was Upper Iowa that took the victory and moved to 4-3 overall, while Augustana fell to 3-2-1 on the season.

Erica Baedke was the player of the game as she was involved in all three Peacock goals scored. The senior forward got Upper Iowa on the board first in the 11th minute with a 5 yard strike to the lower left corner past the diving keeper. Jennifer Lee set the goal up with a header that found Baedke’s feet. After a foul was called in the Peacocks’ box, the Vikings were awarded a penalty kick which they used to tie the game at 1-1 in the 22nd minute. The two teams played evenly to close the half and went to the locker rooms knotted at one.

Upper Iowa struck first in the second half as Lee and Baedke assisted on a goal by sophomore midfielder Jodee Loterbauer. Loterbauer drove the ball past the keeper from 10 yards into the lower right corner of the frame. Just over ten minutes later, Augustana tied the game for the second time. With 18:25 left to play, the Vikings fired a shot past the Peacock keeper, Sarah Hiatt, from 8 yards out.

The Peacocks answered quickly with the final goal of the game when Baedke kicked a rebound home from two yards off an Amy Campbell shot that was deflected by the Viking goalie. Baedke completed her day with two goals and an assist while leading Upper Iowa to their fourth win of the season.

The Peacocks will travel to #7 Winona State this Friday night for another non-conference game with an NSIC school. UIU returns home for a match with Robert Morris this Sunday at 1:00.
