Truman women's soccer team, which is ranked 20th in Division II, won its home opener on Wednesday afternoon by blanking Upper Iowa by a 4-0 score.

The Bulldog goal keeper had to make just one save on the day as Truman's defense allowed just two shots by Upper Iowa. One shot was headed wide of the net and another was softly kicked right at the keeper. The Peacock’s defense, meanwhile, was faced with 18 shots, including 7 shots on goal.

Truman State scored two goals early and set the tone for a long afternoon for Coach Chad Leonard’s team. The Bulldog goals came in the 11th and 14th minutes of the contest. While the Bulldogs were living on the offensive side, the Peacocks did not even get a shot off in the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Truman State put the game away with two goals in the first eight minutes, both coming on plays starting with a corner kick. With the win, Truman improved to 4-1-0 and Upper Iowa fell to 1-3-0.

Coach Leonard said, “Today was very frustrating. Truman State is a great team and we played them to a basically 1-0 score. Coming into the season, I felt that goal keeping was going to be a strength of this team, and so far, I have not seen it. Today there were three goals by our opponents that should have been stopped. We need to get better quickly with two games coming this weekend.”

The Peacocks are back on the field this weekend with matches at Northwest Missouri State University (Saturday, 1 p.m.) and Missouri Western University (Sunday, 2 p.m.)
