The Upper Iowa women’s soccer team took their 2-1 record to Drury University for two games against two more Missouri Intercollegiate Athletic Association teams. UIU is 2-0 on the season against MIAA teams with wins over Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri State. The team continued to play well over the weekend but came up empty against Drury and Missouri-Rolla.
On Saturday, the Peacocks took on the host school, Drury. Upper Iowa was defeated 3-1. Drury took a 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. Drury added a second goal in the 51st minute. The Peacocks were able to cut the deficit in half as Candice Divoky found the back of the net in the 72nd minute. Divoky gathered in a pass from Jennifer Lee (assist) and put it past the keeper from 8 yards out. Ten minutes later Drury put a finishing touch on their win with a final goal in the 81st minute. Amy Campbell was able to fire four shots (two on goal) but could not find the net, while Sarah Hiatt faced five shots stopping two Drury shots. The loss evened the Peacocks’s record at 2-2. On Sunday, Upper Iowa returned to the pitch for a match with Missouri-Rolla. The Peacocks came out on fire to start the match taking a 2-0 lead within the first 10 minutes of the game. Lee put the women in blue on the board first with a goal in the 9th minute. Erica Baedke earned the assist on Lee’s goal, which was driven home from 2 yards off the goal line. The second goal of the contest came just one minute and twenty-four seconds later as Lauren Smith fired a shot home off a deflection in front of the net. The teams played the remainder of the half scoreless and walked to the locker rooms with Upper Iowa in the lead 2-0. The momentum turned quickly within the first eight minutes of the second half. Missouri-Rolla tied the game on back-to-back goals by Morgan Lockowitz in the 51st and 53rd minutes. Both goals were unassisted and seemed to take the Peacocks out of their rhythm. Rolla picked up two more goals in the 68th and 79th minutes to close out the victory, 4-2. The Peacocks managed only five shots as the Rolla defense rallied to play well after giving up the two early goals. Upper Iowa will travel to Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, September 7th, for a NSIC match before returning to Pattison Field in Fayette for a home match versus Augustana College. Friday’s game will begin at 4 p.m., while Sunday’s contest starts at 1 p.m. |
