Upper Iowa Head Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach Brian Bahl announced the commitments of two student-athletes to attend Upper Iowa University and compete on the women’s soccer team. One of the student-athletes signed a National Letter of Intent while the other has committed to walking on at UIU. The newly-signed Peacocks are Ashleigh Lengel (Maxwell, Iowa) and Rahamat Karim (Elma, Iowa).

Ashleigh Lengel

Lengel comes to Upper Iowa from Bondurant-Farrar High School in Bondurant, Iowa. The midfielder was a four-year letter winner in soccer; she also lettered in basketball, track, and cross country. The Maxwell native was a First Team All-Conference selection all four years and garnered Honorable Mention All-State honors her junior year. Lengel led her team in assists in three of her four years on the field.

“Ashleigh is a very athletic and versatile player who we feel can make a major difference for us anywhere along the line in either the defense or midfield. She is strong and reads the game very well. Ashleigh's ability to play in many different positions will be a great asset to us. To have someone who can play at a high level in many positions offers tremendous flexibility to the program. She is solid technically and is always aware of what is going on around her whether in defensive or offensive situations. When in possession of the ball she plays quickly and with great intelligence, ensuring the team keeps possession, which is essential in order to succeed and play in our program. Ashleigh will play a major role in the rise of our program over the next few years,” said Coach Bahl.

Ashleigh is the daughter of Mark and Lorrie Lengel and will major in Biology at UIU.

Rahamat Karim

Karim comes to Upper Iowa from Crestwood High School in Cresco, Iowa. The midfielder earned letters in soccer as well as cross country and track. Karim works very hard in the classroom. She was on the high honor roll and a member of the National Honor Society.

“Rahamat is an athletic prospect with a great background in distance running, having been a very successful track and cross country athlete. We see Rahamat developing into a quality midfielder during the next four years,” Coach Bahl said.

Rahamat is the daughter of Alnoor and Karen Karim and will major in Accounting at UIU.
