The Peacock women's soccer team returned to Pattison Field on Sunday afternoon for their second Northern Sun Conference match of the year. Upper Iowa lost their NSIC opener to MSU Moorhead on Saturday by a 1-0 score. UIU lined up against the Golden Eagles of Minnesota, Crookston and the home team dominated the match winning 4-0. With the win, Upper Iowa gets back to .500 with a 4-4-1 record overall and a 1-1 mark in the NSIC.

The Peacocks got on the scoreboard in the 4th minute when Alyssa Petersburg scored her second career goal on a rebound when the Golden Eagle keeper couldn't gather in a shot off the foot of Valeria Ptasinski. Ptasinski added UIU's second goal in the 9th minute when she lofted a shot from 18 yards off an assist from Liz Kaluzinski. Upper Iowa put their final goal of the first half in the back of the net in the 39th minute. Shaina Marnell drove a strike past the goalie thanks to two great assists from Lauren Verhulst and Amy Campbell.

Upper Iowa added two goals in the second half. Christine Dwyer picked up her first goal of 2009 in the 67th minute from 25 yards out. The goal was assisted by Jamie Krusie and Marnell. The Peacocks final score came off the foot of Emma Vanderheyden who put a rebound into the back of the net in the 87th minute.

Melissa Heitzman made 4 saves in the Peacock net to earn the shutout victory.

Upper Iowa outshot Minnesota, Crookston 25 to 8 for the match including a 14 to 4 advantage in shots on goal.

Upper Iowa will return to the soccer field this coming Friday, Sept. 25, in Winona, Minn. The Peacocks will face the Warriors of Winona State in another Northern Sun Conference match before returning for a Saturday afternoon, Sept. 26, match in Fayette against Wisconsin-Superior.
