The Upper Iowa Women's Soccer team opened the 2009 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season Saturday afternoon as they welcomed the Dragons of MSU Moorhead to Pattison Field in Fayette. The Dragons broke through and put a shot past UIU goalkeeper Melissa Heitzman in the 66th minute to give MSU Moorhead the 1-0 victory.

UIU dominated the first half statistically as they outshot the Dragons 9-2 in the opening 45 minutes and took five corner kicks while not allowing a single corner.

For the match, Upper Iowa outshot the Dragons 14-9 and placed 9 shots on goal while only allowing one Dragon corner kick.

The Peacocks (3-4-1; 0-1-0 NSIC) will be back on the pitch tomorrow afternoon as UM, Crookston visits Fayette for a 1 p.m. match. The Golden Eagles (2-4-1; 0-1-0 NSIC) dropped their conference opener to Winona State Saturday afternoon, 3-0.
