Omaha-Prep Signs NLI to Upper Iowa
 
Peacock Head Golf Coach Chad Markuson announced the signing of Calie Trusler to a National Letter of Intent today. Trusler, a recent graduate of Millard North High School in Omaha, Neb., will come to Upper Iowa to begin her collegiate academic and athletic careers in the fall.

Trusler was named to the Nebraska All-State team in 2007 and was her team's captain in 2008. She earned a varsity letter in golf all four years of high school and also earned a letter in track both years she competed for the team. (MORE)

14th Annual Peacock Golf Classic - June 5, 2009
 
The Athletics Department at Upper Iowa University is hosting their 14th Annual Peacock Golf Classic on Friday, June 5 at Big Rock Country Club in Fayette, Iowa. All the Peacock coaches and administration, including our new Director of Athletics, Dave Miller, will be at Big Rock early and on the course all day to visit with the UIU alumni and friends in attendance.

The activities on the 5th will begin at 9 a.m. with registration. Teams will be on the course at 10:30 a.m. with a shotgun start followed by dinner, prizes and awards at the conclusion of play. Participants in the four-person scramble will enjoy free range balls, raffle prizes, flight trophies, a lunch, and beverages on the course, as well as hole contests including closest to the pin, men's and women's long drive, and longest putt. A hole-in-one on hole #9 will also earn that lucky participant $10,000. Many more games and challenges are also planned for many of the holes on the course. (MORE)

Twenty-Five Peacocks Earn Northern Sun All-Academic Team Honors
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has announced its All-Academic Teams for the 2009 spring athletic season and twenty-five Peacock student-athletes earned recognition. To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. The student-athlete must have also reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at the institution represented with one full year completed at their institution. (MORE)

Upper Iowa Claims Eighth at NCAA Championships
Findlay, OH - The Upper Iowa women's golf team finished their first-ever trip to the NCAA Championships on Saturday with a 331 as the tournament was completed under chilly and breezy conditions in northwest Ohio this afternoon. Upper Iowa was one of three Northern Sun Conference teams at the Championships. UIU's 331 was good enough to hold on to 8th place for the Peacocks, who finished with a 1303 over 72-holes. Concordia-St. Paul and Augustana were the other two Northern Sun teams; the Golden Bears tied for 9th and the Vikings placed 11th. (MORE)

Peacocks Move into Tie for Eighth at NCAA Championships
Findlay, OH - The Peacock women's golf team finds itself in a tie for eighth place with Concordia-St. Paul after the second and third rounds of competition at the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship. All 72 golfers were required to complete 36 holes today at the Findlay Country Club after heavy rain washed out Thursday's second round of competition. Upper Iowa has combined for a total score of 972 (321-329-322) after three complete rounds of competition. The Peacocks are led by Rachael Schmidt, who currently sits in a tie for 18th place shooting a 155 over today's two rounds of action and a 235 (+19) for the tournament. Twin sister, Rochelle Schmidt, carded a 161 over the two rounds and is tied for 37th place with a total tournament score of 241 (+25). (MORE)

National Golf Coaches Association Announces Division II Award Winners
The National Golf Coaches Association announced the 2008-09 student-athlete and coaches awards for Division II Women's Collegiate Golf. Winners were recognized at the NGCA Division II Awards Banquet held in Findlay, Ohio. Three Peacocks were recognized at the Awards Banquet. Rachael Schmidt (Elk River, Minn.) and Rochelle Schmidt (Elk River, Minn.) were recognized as Honorable Mention All-Americans and All-Central Region performers. Head Coach Chad Markuson was named as the Central Region Coach of the Year. (MORE)

Round Two of NCAA Championships Suspended Due to Rain
The Upper Iowa women's golf team won't have a chance to make a move up in the field of twelve teams at the NCAA Championships today. Heavy rains overnight in northwest Ohio have left Findlay Country Club unplayable today. The Peacocks currently sit in ninth place, but are only seven strokes behind fifth place Nova Southeastern.

McKenzie Holthaus will lead the Peacocks off the first tee box tomorrow morning at 8:50 a.m. with the Jill Preeshl, Laura Taylor, Rochelle Schmidt, and Rachael Schmidt following at ten minute intervals. The third round will begin in the afternoon; Holthaus will once again lead the UIU team off the front at 1:50 p.m. with the other four players to follow every ten minutes. (MORE)

Upper Iowa Ninth Thru First Round at NCAA Championships
Findlay, OH--The Upper Iowa Peacock women's golf team currently sits in 9th place through the first round of competition at the NCAA Division II Championships at the Findlay Country Club in Findlay, OH. The Peacocks shot a 321 (+33) during the opening round of action. Tarleton State currently leads the tournament by posting a 301 (+13) for their opening round.

Freshman McKenzie Holthaus leads the Peacocks through the first 18-holes as she fired a 79 (+7) which puts her in a tie for 26th place. Rachael Schmidt and sister Rochelle Schmidt both shot 80's (+8) to put them in a nine-way tie for 31st place. Jill Preeshl carded an 82 (+10) and sits in a tie for 47th place to round out the scoring for Upper Iowa. Laura Taylor shot a 93 (+21) in her first round. (MORE)

Upper Iowa Women's Golf Prepares for NCAA Division II National Tournament
For the first time in the program's history, the Upper Iowa women's golf team will be competing as a team on the national tournament stage. After setting a new low round record of 302 in the final round of the NCAA Super Regional Three on May 6, the Peacocks extended their lead over conference-foe Concordia-St. Paul to 17 strokes and won the regional by posting a three-day total score of 930. With the tournament victory, the Peacocks extended their winning streak to six straight tournaments without being defeated. (MORE)
