Rachael Schmidt, a senior from Elk River, Minnesota, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Women's Golfer of the Week. This honor is the second NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year and the sixth time that Schmidt has earned the honor in her career. Schmidt finished at the top of the leader board at the two-day Concordia University Fall Invite. The senior finished the tourney with a 153 (79-74) to earn her second medalist honor in as many tournaments. The Peacocks were one of eleven teams competing in the tournament hosted by Concordia. The tournament was played at Tartan Park Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn. Upper Iowa fired a 341 on day one and finished the first round in 6th place, eleven strokes behind the host school and leader Concordia (330). The Peacocks shot the low round of the day on Monday as they turned in a 319, a 22-stroke improvement on day one. The good round jumped the team from 6th to 3rd in the final standings. Schmidt and the Peacock women's golf team will be back on the course next Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20-21, in Marshall, Minn. playing in a tournament hosted by Southwest Minnesota State University. |
