St. Paul, Minn. - The 2007-08 NSIC Women's Golf All-Conference team has been announced as voted on by the league coaches. Upper Iowa's Rachael Schmidt was named NSIC Golfer of the Year while Concordia-St. Paul's Molly Noser was named NSIC Newcomer of the Year. Chad Markuson was voted on by his peers as NSIC Women's Golf Coach of the Year after leading the Peacocks to a second straight NSIC Championship. NSIC Player of the Year Schmidt has been named the NSIC Golfer of the Year for the first time in her outstanding career at Upper Iowa. She has been named NSIC Golfer of the Week four times this year. Schmidt was dominant on the golf course taking home medalist honors a jaw-dropping eight times in the team's thirteen tournaments including shooting the low score over the four-round NSIC tournament. She currently has a stroke average of 77.78 with a low round of 71 on the season. NSIC Coach of the Year Markuson becomes the third NSIC Coach of the Year for Upper Iowa during the 2007-08 academic year. He has been recognized as the leagues' top coach for the past two seasons joining Peacock wrestling coach Heath Grimm in that regard. Head women's tennis coach Chad Fenwick was also named the NSIC Coach of the Year. Under Markuson, both the men's and women's teams are headed to their respective NCAA Regionals. Upper Iowa is the only school in the Northern Sun that can boast this success in 2008; Minnesota State is the only other school in the region that duplicated the feat. 2007-08 NSIC Women's Golf All-Conference First Team 2007-08 NSIC Women's Golf All-Conference Second Team Rochelle Schmidt and Laura Taylor join Rachael on the 2007-08 NSIC Women's Golf All-Conference First Team. Schmidt has an 81.43 scoring average through the season and has a low round of 74. She has won two tournaments this year and finished second at the NSIC Tournament. Taylor has a scoring average of 83.91 with a low of 74 on the season; the 74 earned Taylor medalist honors one time this season. She finished fifth in the NSIC Tournament. |
