Schmidt Named Northern Sun Conference Golfer of the Week

Rachael Schmidt, a junior from Elk River, Minnesota, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Women's Golfer of the Week. This honor is the twentieth NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year and fourth time Schmidt has earned the honor this season.

Schmidt finished 4th at the Upper Iowa Spring Classic in Amana, Iowa. The junior recorded rounds of 83 and 85 to finish the two day tournament with a team-low total of 168. Schmidt led all NSIC golfers at the event which included Concordia-St. Paul, Winona State, Southwest Minnesota State, and Minnesota, Crookston.

Schmidt and the Peacocks will next play in the spring portion of the 2007-08 NSIC Women's Golf Championship. The tournament, originally scheduled for this coming weekend, will take place next Thursday and Friday, April 17-18, at Fox Run Golf Course in Yankton, S.D. After the first 36 holes played last fall in Becker, Minn. Upper Iowa holds a 36 stroke lead over Concordia-St. Paul after the Peacocks turned in a 625. Schmidt leads after two rounds with scores of 77 and 71 (148) to hold a six stroke lead over Winona State's Megan Placko (76-78=154).
