The Peacock women's golf team was on fire this past weekend in Marshall, Minnesota at the Mustang Invite hosted by Southwest Minnesota State. Upper Iowa won the team title with a 612, which is a new program record for 36 holes. The Peacocks tied their 18-hole record on day one when they turned in a 303. The Peacocks defeated sixteen other teams to claim the title. Twelve of the seventeen schools at the tournament were Northern Sun Conference members.

Rachael Schmidt led the Peacocks tying for the runner up position at the tournament with Jacquelyn Hauser of Concorida. Schmidt fired a two-day total of 151 (+7) after shooting a 74 on day one and a 77 on day two to finish just strokes behind the tournament's medalist, Erin Ommen from Nebraska-Omaha. Laura Taylor finished in a tie for 5th after carding back-to-back 77's, while Jill Preeshl took 8th with a 157 (77-80). In fact, all five members of the Peacock squad finished in the top 12 of the 101 person field. Rochelle Schmidt turned in a 158 (75-83) which was good for a 9th place tie, and McKenzie Holthaus finished with a 159 (84-75) to tie for 12th.

Three Peacocks played as individuals at the Mustang Invite. Glenna Meyer led these UIU golfers with a 184 (93-91) to place 69th. Jessica Lang turned in a two-day total of 187 (93-94, t-73rd) and Kelly Rowe finished with a 196 (100-96, t-83rd).

The Mustang Invite served as the Peacocks final preparation for the first half of the Northern Sun Conference Championship. The NSIC Championship is a 72-hole event with 36 holes played in the fall and 36 played in the spring. Upper Iowa is the two-time defending NSIC Championship winning the title in 2006-07 and 2007-08. This year's NSIC Championship will open in St. Paul, Minnesota on October 4-5.
