Laker Fall Classic Final Results and Stats
The Upper Iowa women's golf team completed their play in the Laker Fall Classic on Tuesday. The Peacocks were one of fourteen teams competing in the tournament hosted by Grand Valley State University. The tournament was played on campus at the Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Michigan. The Peacocks turned in a 319 in their second round for a two-day total of 636. Upper Iowa finished two strokes ahead of Division I-Bowling Green State and fourteen strokes behind Grand Valley State. The four teams ahead of Upper Iowa are all ranked in the top 15 in the country according to Golfweek Magazine, while the Peacocks are currently ranked #16 in the country. California University (PA) won the tournament with a two-day total of 606. Rochelle Schmidt followed her first day 76 with a second day 75 to finish in 5th place, seven strokes behind the tournament's medalist. The junior from Elk River, Minnesota tied for seventh in par 3 and par 4 scoring with 3.13 and 4.25 stroke averages, respectively. Schmidt also finished fifth in the tournament in pars with 23. Rachael Schmidt finished the two-day tournament in tenth place after turning in a 76 after shooting a 77 on day one. She was tied for tenth in par 3 scoring with a 3.25 average and tied for third in par 5 scoring with a 4.88 average. Schmidt ended the tournament with the eighth most birdies as she sunk 5. McKenzie Holthaus tied for 40th place with a 167 (80-87), Jill Preeshl tied for 48th place with a 169 (84-85), and Laura Taylor bounced back on day two to complete her tournament in a tie for 53rd with a 170 (87-83). Upper Iowa was fifth in par 3 scoring with a 3.47 average, eighth in par 4 scoring with a 4.59 average, and tied for fourth in par 5 scoring with a 5.30 average. The Peacocks carded the fourth most birdies (15) and the fifth most pars (92). Upper Iowa is back on the course today in Onalaska, Wis. competing in the Cedar Creek Invitational. |
