Upper Iowa Currently Seventh in Laker Fall Classic

Laker Fall Classic Round One Results and Stats Get Acrobat Reader

The Upper Iowa women's golf team played the first round of their 2008-09 season on Labor Day. The Peacocks are one of fourteen teams competing in the Laker Fall Classic hosted by Grand Valley State University. The tournament is being played on campus at the Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, Michigan.

The Peacocks put together a 317 after the first round, just 11 strokes behind the leaders, Grand Valley State. Rochelle Schmidt turned in a 77 (+5) to finish the first eighteen holes in a tie for 7th place. Her twin sister, Rachael, completed her round just one stroke behind with a 78 (+6) and in a tie for 11th place.

Freshman McKenzie Holthaus made an impressive debut for Upper Iowa firing an 80 in her first collegiate tournament to finish in a tie for 28th. Jill Preeshl and Laura Taylor rounded out UIU's scoring with an 84 and an 87, respectively.

The Schmidts are tied for second in par 3 scoring with a 3.00 average. Rochelle is tied for 6th in par 4 scoring with a 4.20 average, while Rachael is third in par 5 scoring with a 4.75 average. Rochelle is tied for the lead in pars with 13, while Holthaus sits in a tie at 8th in pars with 12.

As for team stats, Upper Iowa and Bethel are leading the field in par 3 scoring with a 3.30 average. The Peacocks are 8th in par 4 scoring (4.60) and 5th in par 5 scoring (5.4). The team is tied for 6th with 4 birdies and in 4th with 51 pars.

Upper Iowa will finish play in the Laker Fall Classic today and then travel to Onalaska, Wis. tomorrow to compete in the Cedar Creek Invitational.
