GRAND FORKS, N.D.--Nebraska-Omaha senior Sara Wolfe shot a career-low, one-under 71 and has the Mavericks in first place after the opening round of the 2008 NCAA Division II Women's Golf North Regional at King's Walk Golf Course. Wolfe was the only participant in the entire field to shoot under par and leads the individual standings by three shots over Minnesota State's Kayla Wheeler. Wolfe and her four UNO teammates each broke 80, putting the Mavericks atop the team standings with a 15-over 303. Minnesota State is in second place, seven strokes off the lead, after shooting a 22-over 310. Just six strokes separate the third through sixth-place teams. The Peacocks are in third place after shooting a 316 on day one. Rochelle Schmidt led Upper Iowa with a 77 and is tied for 7th, while her sister Rachael came in with a 78 and is tied for 10th. Freshman Jill Preeshl tied for 15th and carded a 79 and sophomore Laura Taylor turned in an 82. Lindsey Holien rounded out the Peacocks' day with a 92. The top two teams and the top two individuals not with those teams advance to the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship May 13-16 in Houston, Texas. Tomorrow's second round gets underway at King's Walk with the first tee time at 8 a.m. Friday's third and final round begins at 8 a.m. at King's Walk. |
