The Peacock women's golf team got back on the course this past weekend hosting the Upper Iowa Spring Classic at the Amana Colonies Golf Course in Amana, Iowa. The team played host to nine other teams including some of the top squads in the region. Upper Iowa finished day one in fifth place with a 355, fifteen strokes behind day one-leader Augustana. The Peacocks were led by Rachael (83) and Rochelle Schmidt (84) on the first day. The Peacocks improved their team score by nine strokes on day two ending with a 346. UIU was able to move up a spot to fourth on the scoreboard as they passed Concordia-St. Paul to finish as the top NSIC team. Truman State won the tournament with a 340 on day two, 686 for the weekend. Rachael Schmidt finished fourth in the field by shooting a 168 (83-85) for the tournament, just one stroke better than her sister Rochelle who finished tied for fifth shooting a 169 (84-85) on the weekend. Laura Taylor finished the tournament tied for 16th place, coming in at 188 (91-85). Rounding out the Peacock scoring was Jill Preeshl, 188 (97-91), and Lindsey Holien, 205 (99-106). The Peacocks also had three individuals in competition. Glenna Meyer shot a 192 (96-96), Jessica Lang recorded a 203 (109-94) and Kelly Rowe finished with a 212 (103-109). The Peacock women will be in action again this coming weekend, Apr. 12-13, as they travel to Yankton, South Dakota to compete in the second half of the Northern Sun Conference Tournament. The Peacocks have a 36-shot lead as they head into the final two rounds of the NSIC tourney. |
