Upper Iowa Head Women's Basketball Coach Mike Brown and the Peacock women's basketball team announced today that Chelsea Garcia and Karina Berinobis have signed admission acceptance letters to attend Upper Iowa University and compete for the Peacocks. Garcia, a 5-9 guard/forward, is from Minnetonka, Minnesota and currently attends Hopkins High School where she is a three-time letter winner and was captain of her team a season ago. "Chelsea comes from one of the strongest high school programs in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area in Hopkins High School. She's been very well coached and has a strong, fundamentally sound game. We believe that she can continue to develop her game and become a solid Division II player." Chelsea is the daughter of Sheila and Albert Garcia and will major in psychology at Upper Iowa. Berinobis is a 5'7'' guard from Strawberry Point, Iowa and is currently attending Starmont High School. She competed at the USA Junior Nationals and was a part of the runner-up team at the AAU Nationals where she won first place in the three-point contest. Berinobis was named to the Tri-Rivers All-Conference team after her senior season. "We are excited to add a local talent to the program. Karina is one of the best three-point shooters in the state, and with a little work, could be an important part of the Peacock program for years to come." Karina is the daughter of Sheri and Ed Berinobis and will major in business at Upper Iowa. |
