Travis Eggers (So./Monona, Iowa) has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference's (NSIC) Wrestler of the Week. This honor is the sixteenth NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year, fifth by a Peacock wrestler, and second for Eggers for the 2007-08 season. Eggers (#8 NCAA/157) recorded a pin just 39 seconds into his match with Southwest Minnesota State's Logan McAlpin. The sophomore's win was one of two pins on the evening; the other came from Matt Norton (6:57) in the 197 pound match. Egger's victory gives him 25 on the season second on the team only to Tyler Mumbulo (27-4 / #2 NCAA). Eggers and the #11 Peacock wrestling team will travel to Mankato, Minnesota to compete in the NCAA North Regional on Sunday, Mar. 2. The top four wrestlers in each weight class will earn a spot in the NCAA National Wrestling Championship hosted by Upper Iowa University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the U.S. Cellular Center on Mar. 14 and 15. |
