Peacocks Close 2009 Campaign with a Shutout Victory
Peacocks Storm Back to Win in Overtime It's a known fact that the Peacock Men's Soccer team plays better in the snow then in the rain, and they proved it on Friday afternoon as they visited Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa. The rain came down upon both teams in the first half as the Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the halftime break. But, the rain changed to snow after halftime as the Peacocks tied the match back at 1-1 going into overtime. The Peacocks netted a goal in the second overtime period to earn the 2-1 victory. (MORE) Saints Defeat Peacocks in Home Finale The Upper Iowa men's soccer team charged onto Pattison Field today for the final time this season. The Peacocks lined up against the Saints of Ashford University. The two teams played a scoreless match until the 79th minute when Vedran Ilic drove a rebound over the goal line for the only goal of the day. The visiting Saints claimed the 1-0 victory to spoil the final home match of the 2009 season. Ashford out shot Upper Iowa 26-6 on the day including a 15-2 advantage in shots on goal. Andy Youde was excellent in goal for the home team as he stopped 14 shots, while allowing just one rebound to be put past him. With the loss, the Peacocks fall to 6-12-1 on the season, while the Saints improve to 16-0-2. (MORE) Peacocks Close Out 2009 Season This Week This Week in Men's Soccer... The Upper Iowa Men's Soccer team closes out the 2009 season with a pair of matches this week. On Wednesday, the Peacocks defend Pattison Field for the final time of the season as they welcome the undefeated Saints of Ashford University to Pattison Field in Fayette for a 3 p.m. showdown. The Saints have clinched the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championship. Then, on Sunday, the Peacock men travel to Bismarck, North Dakota to battle the Marauders of U-Mary at 11 a.m. The Marauders defeated UIU in their first meeting of the season, 1-0, in Fayette. (MORE) Peacocks Snap Five Match Winless Streak The Upper Iowa Peacock Men's Soccer team continued its 2009 campaign Wednesday afternoon as they welcomed the Crusaders of Clarke College to Pattison Field in Fayette. Upper Iowa picked up a 3-0 victory against the Crusaders which snapped a five match winless streak, dating back to Sept. 26 when they defeated UW-Superior, 2-0. The Peacocks netted their first goal in the 27th minute when Steve Kluck broke away from the Crusader defense and put a Zach Castor pass around the Crusader goalkeeper. Then, just six minutes later, Derek Oelmann netted a goal to give UIU a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break. Oelmann's sixth goal of the season was assisted by Josh Danielson. (MORE) Peacocks Prepare for Clash with Crusaders This Week in Men's Soccer... The Peacocks play in just one match this week as they host Clarke College on Wednesday afternoon in Fayette for a 2 p.m. match. The Crusaders enter Wednesday's match with a 6-5-3 record and 3-3-1 in league play while the Peacocks enter the match carrying a five-match winless streak and a 5-11-1 record. This marks the first meeting between both squads under Coach Bahl. Looking ahead, the Peacocks close out the 2009 home schedule next Wednesday, Oct. 28 when Ashford visits Pattison Field in Fayette for a 3 p.m. clash. (MORE) Peacocks Drop Match with Raiders As with the women's soccer team, the Upper Iowa Men's Soccer team played Monday afternoon, less than 24 hours after a very physical overtime contest with Truman State. The Peacocks travelled to Orange City, Iowa to battle the Raiders of Northwestern College. The Raiders defeated UIU, 2-1. Northwestern took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break as Taylor Biggs netted a goal off of a Raider corner kick in the 15th minute. Then, early in the second half, the Raiders scored an insurance goal which came from another corner kick. (MORE) Peacocks Drop Match to #10 Truman State The Upper Iowa Men's Soccer team closed out its latest three match homestand on Sunday as the welcomed the #10 ranked Bulldogs of Truman State University to Pattison Field in Fayette. Ninety minutes wasn't enough to determine a winner, but the Bulldogs struck just four minutes into the first overtime period to seal a 1-0 victory. Sunday's contest turned out to be much more of a battle as both teams combined for 42 fouls, eight of which required yellow cards. Upper Iowa tallied 24 fouls while the visiting Bulldogs earned 18. Goalkeeper Andy Youde and the Peacock defense was outstanding in Sunday's contest. Youde turned away 10 shots which included a penalty kick with just eight minutes to go in regulation to keep the score knotted at 0-0. (MORE) |
