Upper Iowa Defeats Mount Mercy

Upper Iowa’s men’s soccer team traveled to Cedar Rapids for its second match with an MCC foe in as many days. Upper Iowa scored three goals in the first half and held in the second half to win their second match of the season 3-2. Upper Iowa fired 14 shots and earned 5 corner kicks in the match.
 
The Peacocks got on the board when Aaron Hoyne scored a goal in the 28th minute. Craig Signorin dished out the assist on the goal to give UIU a 1-0 lead. Upper Iowa added a second goal less than four minutes later. Dan Rodewald scored an unassisted goal in the 32nd minute to push the visitors ahead 2-0.
 
The Mustangs scored their lone first half goal in the 35th minute on a goal assisted by former Peacock student-athlete Derek Oja. Jacob Rasbeck was able to reestablish the two goal lead before halftime as he finished the Peacocks’ scoring off a pass from the foot of Tavo Gomez.
 
Mount Mercy closed the gap to 3-2 with a goal in the 87th minute, but Upper Iowa held on for their second victory of the season.
 
The team will host Truman State and Robert Morris this Saturday and Sunday. The Truman game’s start time is still to be determined, while the Robert Morris game will begin at 3:00.
