Box Score

The Peacock men's soccer team played host to Ashford University on Wednesday afternoon at Pattison Field. Upper Iowa struck first and took a one goal lead into halftime, but Ashford scored two quick goals in the second half to reclaim the lead. The Peacocks tied it only to have their hearts broken in another one goal loss as the Saints put one in the back of the net with just over five minutes to play. The loss dropped Upper Iowa's overall record to 4-13 and improved Ashford's record to 8-7-1.

Craig Signorin opened the games scoring with a strike in the 15th minute. Signorin sent a rolling ball under the diving Saint keeper from 10 yards out. The goal was set up by Josh Andersen. The second half seemed to be played in the Peacocks' defensive half and the Saints converted on three of their twelve second half shots.

Ashford scored the first goal on a questionable offsides non-call that allowed Mike Rosselli (Assist: Michael Lentini) to get a breakaway opportunity that he put past the Peacock keeper, Andy Youde. The second goal came just seven minutes later in the the 66th minute on a rocket off the foot of Clay Benore (Assist: Soroush Kahlor) from 30 yards away.

Upper Iowa tied the game at 2-2 in the 73rd minute when Craig Signorin drove the ball to the back of the net thanks once again to an assist from Josh Andersen. The game looked like it might go to overtime when Abe Tufa (Assist: Michael Lentini) took a ball wide down the left side, crossed back to the middle, and beat the Peacock defense just inside the right post from 8 yards away.

Andy Youde made nine saves in goal for the Peacocks including two sensational diving grabs, but Upper Iowa failed to convert on several opportuties on the offensive end.

UIU will retake Pattison Field this Sunday, Oct. 21, for the final home match of the season against Wisconsin-Parkside. The Peacock seniors will be recognized before the game which starts at 3:00 PM after the women's game.
