Head Coach Chad Markuson and the Upper Iowa Men's golf program are excited to announce the commitments of four additions to the program for the 2009-2010 academic year. Future Peacocks, Jake Nelson, Joe Lownik, Sam Schmalz, and Colin Weaver will all compete for the golf program this fall. Jake Nelson from Ladysmith, Wisconsin will be a great addition to the program. During his junior season he was named 1st team all conference, 3rd team all-state and was the Wisconsin state champion. Along with the plethora of playing experience he brings to the program, he is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Letterman's club. He is the son of Gary and Shelley Nelson and plans to study Graphic Arts. Joe Lownik from Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin will also be a great addition to the program. He was a four year Marawood Scholar Athlete and took 3rd place at the Wisconsin state tournament during his junior season. In the classroom, Joe has earned 3rd place in the academic decathlon two years and is a four year High Honor Student. He is the son of Douglas and Joan Lownik and plans to study biology. Sam Schmalz, from Hampshire, Illinois brings numerous strengths to the program. He is a three time all conference player, two year all area player, has set four school records and took ninth at state during his senior season. He is the son of Kathleen Schmalz-Gervasi and Richard Gervasi. Sam plans to study Chemistry/Biology while attending Upper Iowa. Colin Weaver, from Griswold Iowa has a lot to offer Upper Iowa's program. He is a two time state qualifier and was named to the all-tournament team his sophomore season. He was also named an Iowa High School Academic Achievement winner and an academic letter winner. He is the son of Kelly and Mara Weaver and plans to study Physical Therapy/Exercise Science. The Upper Iowa men's golf team recently finished 4th in the 2008-09 NSIC Championships. |
