The Upper Iowa men’s golf team traveled to Augustana College in South Dakota for their opening action of the spring. Augustana hosted the event at Willow Run Golf Course. The Peacocks finished in a tie for sixth place, behind leader South Dakota. Upper Iowa was led by the strong play of Brian Peck, Tyler Pederson, Craig Signorin, and Kevin Bredy.

The Peacocks shot a 308 on day one and found themselves in a tie for sixth place with Bemidji State, but were only nine strokes behind the tournament winner, South Dakota (299). Day two of the tournament was cancelled on Saturday due to rain and unplayable course conditions. The tournament will revert back to an 18-hole tournament.

Bryan Peck finished in a tie for 11th place after shooting a team-low 75. Tyler Pederson tied for 23rd place after coming in with a 77 including a 33 on the front side. Craig Signorin and Kevin Bredy both shot 78 on the day, while Josh Wells struggled in shooting an 83. Matt Ewalt played as an individual and shot an 81.

After the tournament, Head Coach Chad Markuson said, “The team score of 308 is a great start for our team, and to reach that score with four players in the 70’s and a without a good day from team leader Josh Wells speaks well about our depth. Tyler came out on fire as he shot a 33 on the front. Brian played very well and recorded a few birdies. Craig shot well in recording his 78, while Kevin played in his first collegiate tournament and played well. Matt also shot well as an individual as he recorded an 81 with one bad hole on his card. The rainout today disappointed Josh the most; he wanted revenge on this course.”

Upper Iowa will tee it up again tomorrow, April 1-2; weather permitting. They will join with the women’s team at a tourney hosted by the University of South Dakota.
