Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Officially Expands to 14 Teams

St. Paul, Minn. - Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Commissioner Butch Raymond has announced the results from the NSIC Board of Directors teleconference call dealing with expansion. The Board of Directors, consisting of the ten NSIC Presidents/Chancellors, voted to expand the NSIC to 14 teams with the addition of Augustana College (Sioux Falls, S.D.), the University of Minnesota Duluth (Duluth, Minn.), Minnesota State University Mankato (Mankato, Minn.) and Saint Cloud State University (Saint Cloud, Minn.). These four institutions, which were all voted on individually, will begin participating within the NSIC in the 2008-09 season.

Winans Named to the Ping/GCAA Division II All-Region Team

The Division II All-Region teams presented by Ping and the Golf Coaches Association of America, or GCAA, have been released and one Peacock has earned a spot. Adam Winans (LaGrange, Ind.) was named to the All-Central Region Team.

Winans led the Peacocks' seventh place finish in the 2008 Central Regional with rounds of 76-70-76 for a 54-hole total of 222 (+6). The three day effort placed the junior in fifth place. Winans registered one eagle, eight birdies, and 31 pars; shooting par or better on 40 of the 54 holes.

Upper Iowa Finishes Sixth in 2007-08 NSIC All-Sport Standings

The Upper Iowa Athletics Department climbed three spots this year in the NSIC All-Sports Standings. The Peacocks ranked 6th this year, only five points away from 4th place U-Mary and four and a half points away from 5th place MSU Moorhead. Upper Iowa's success is due, in large part, to its three NSIC Championships in Wrestling, Women's Tennis, and Women's Golf. But 6th place could not have been attained without Baseball (2nd), Women's Soccer (3rd), and Men's Golf (3rd), who all had very successful seasons as well.

Peacocks Finish NCAA DII Central Regional in Seventh Place

Findlay, Ohio--The Peacocks completed their play at the NCAA Division II Central Regional today at Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio. Upper Iowa shot 312 led by Josh Wells, who carded a 74. The team, who came into the regional as the #6 seed, finished the regional in seventh place in the standings after 54 holes. The men's golf team became the first men's team in Upper Iowa's short Division II history to earn an invited spot at an NCAA Regional.

Peacocks Sixth after Second Day of NCAA DII Central Regional

Findlay, Ohio--Upper Iowa continued their play in the NCAA Division II Central Regional today at Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio. The Peacocks shot five strokes better than day one as they put together a 305. The team sits in sixth place in the standings thru 36 holes. UIU trails the second-place, Central Missouri, by only 9 strokes.

Peacocks Fifth after first day of NCAA DII Central Regional

Findlay, Ohio--Upper Iowa opened play in NCAA Division II Central Regional today at Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio. The Peacocks shot a 310 and sit in fifth place in the team standings after the first round. UIU trails the leader, Wabash, by only 12 strokes.

Matt Dahlke and Adam Winans both shot a 76 on the day to lead the team, while Josh Wells carded a 77. Tucker Bayler came into the clubhouse with an 81 after scoring a birdie on his final hole. Craig Signorin rounded out the Peacocks' scoring with an 82. Dahlke and Winans tied two other Northern Sun Conference golfers for low round by a conference member; Josh Wilhelm of Winona State and Jacob Sanders of UM, Crookston both shot four-over as well. Dahlke's 14 pars on the day was tied for the most of any golfer in the NCAA Central Regional.

Peacock Golf Teams Ready to Open Play at Regional Tournaments

The Peacock golf teams both hit the course for a practice round at their respective NCAA Regionals this afternoon. The women are competing as the #2 seed in the NCAA North Regional in Grand Forks, N.D., while the men are playing as the #6 seed in the NCAA Central Regional in Findlay, Ohio. Both teams are playing on links-style courses. The women at King's Walk Golf Course and the men at Red Hawk Run Golf Course.

Peacock Golf Teams Invited to Compete in 2008 NCAA Regionals

April 28, 2008... will be remembered as a banner day in the brief, NCAA Division II history of men's and women's golf at Upper Iowa University. The two teams have been invited to compete in their respective NCAA Regionals; the men will head to Findlay, Ohio to compete in the Central Regional, while the women will travel to Grand Forks, North Dakota to play at the North Regional.

Peacocks Finish Second at Concordia Triangular

The Peacock men's golf team rounded out their regular season this past Wednesday (Apr. 23) as they traveled to Rochester, Minnesota to compete in the Concordia Triangular hosted by Concordia-St. Paul. Upper Iowa finished second out of the three competing squads, firing a 321 as a team, and finished just five strokes behind tournament champion, Winona State.

Junior Matt Dalhke finished the tournament tied for for the low score of the day, carding a 75 (35-40) for the tournament. Adam Winans collected a fourth-place finish for Upper Iowa as he fired a 79 (39-40) for his round.

The Upper Iowa men's golf team was back in action this past weekend as they travelled to Lake City, Minnesota to compete in three, one-day tournaments hosted by Concordia-St. Paul at the Jewel Golf Club.

Peacock Golf Teams Named in Regional and National Polls

The Upper Iowa women's golf team is ranked No. 14 in the latest Golf World/NGCA Division II Coaches' Poll. The poll combines the resources of Golf World magazine and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) to determine its rankings. The complete results appeared in the April issue of Golf World.

The first NCAA Regional Polls for both women's and men's golf were also released. The Peacock women's golf team was named as the #3 team in the North Region. The top six teams in the North Region will be invited to play in NCAA North Regional at Kings Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks, N.D. The Upper Iowa men's golf team was named the #6 team in the Central Region. The top eight teams in the Central Region will compete in a Super Regional at Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay, Ohio. A super regional features two regions competing on the same golf course.

Upper Iowa Wins Tournament Quadrangular at Cedar Creek

The Peacock men's golf team traveled to Cedar Creek Country Club in Onalaska, Wisconsin to compete in a quadrangular with Winona State, Viterbo, and St. Mary's. The Peacocks won the tournament with a 307, two strokes in front of runner-up Viterbo. Matt Dahlke led the way winning the tournament with a 75 and earning medalist honors.

Dahlke Named Northern Sun Conference Golfer of the Week

Matt Dahlke, a junior from Inner Grove Heights, Minnesota, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Men's Golfer of the Week. This honor is the nineteenth NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete and the first of Dahlke's career. In the fall, the junior earned NSIC All-Conference honors, finishing sixth at the conference championship.

Upper Iowa Wins Tournament on Saturday; Finish Fourth in Sunday's Tournament

The Peacock men's golf team got back on the course this past weekend hosting two one-day tournaments held at the Amana Colonies Golf Course in Amana, Iowa. The tournament featured eight teams in addition to the host-Peacocks including four Northern Sun schools and three more future-NSIC teams. Upper Iowa won the first day's tournament with a 311 and finished fourth on day two with a 318, twelve strokes behind St. Cloud State. The Huskies won Sunday's tournament with a 306.

The awards and trophies at the tournament were presented based on two-day totals, which meant Matt Dahlke finished as the weekend's medalist. Upper Iowa finished in second place on the weekend, just three strokes behind Minnesota State, Mankato.

Peacocks Open Spring Season with Win over Winona State

The Peacock men's golf team of traveled to Bolivar, Missouri this past weekend to find a playable course as the northern Midwest has finally began the healing process from a harsh winter. Upper Iowa faced the Warriors of Winona State in a one-day tournament this past Sunday at the Silo Ridge Golf Course. While each squad had their varsity teams playing each other, the Warriors and Peacocks also had a few individuals at the course getting a competitive round in. Upper Iowa defeated Winona State by ten strokes, 297-307.
