NSIC Release
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Football Players of the Week have been named and two Peacocks earned the honor. T.C. Hicks, a senior running back from Immokalee, Florida, has been named the NSIC Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Dominique Jackson, a sophomore cornerback from Riviera Beach, Florida, has been named the NSIC Football Defensive Player of the Week. These honors are the ninth and tenth NSIC Players of the Week earned by Upper Iowa student-athletes this year and the second and third earned by a Peacock football player. In addition to the NSIC honors, Jackson has been named the D2Football.com National Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Hicks rushed for 233 yards on 27 carries and scored two touchdowns for UIU. The rushing yardage ranks him second all-time for yards in a game in the Peacock record book and leaves him just 37 yards shy of the all-time career rushing record at Upper Iowa. Jackson led the Peacock defense as he picked off four passes and returned them for a total of 181 yards in the Peacocks 50-21 win over Minnesota, Crookston. The returns were highlighted by a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown that gave the Peacocks a 19-0 lead and was a major turning point in the game as the Golden Eagles were poised to cut the deficit to 12-7. The Peacocks had six picks in the game. The Peacocks defeated Minnesota, Crookston 50-21 to pick up their first NSIC victory of the season. Upper Iowa will look to win back to back games this weekend when they host the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State. Upper Iowa will celebrate homecoming and their 150th anniversary this weekend. Saturday's kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm at Eischeid Stadium. |
