         <description><![CDATA[Upper Iowa University will hold its annual football media day at Eischeid Stadium in Fayette on Saturday, Aug. 16, beginning at 12 p.m. This will be the first opportunity to talk to Peacock Head Coach Mike Knoll, who is entering his fourth year at the helm, as his team prepares for the 2008 football season. Players and coaches will be available for photos and interviews.          <description><![CDATA[MANKATO, MINN.: The Northern Sun Conference held the first annual NSIC Football Media Day today in Mankato, Minn. The NSIC is now made up of fourteen universities and colleges that cover Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, and North Dakota. In addition to the ten institutions that competed in the NSIC last year, there are now four new schools which have joined the NSIC from the now defunct North Central Conference. These four schools include Augustana College, the University of Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State University, Mankato, and St. Cloud State University.<p>The head coaches of all fourteen schools voted in the 2008 NSIC Preseason Football Poll and the Upper Iowa University football team was picked to finish thirteenth overall and seventh in the South Division.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[The National High School Athletic Coaches Association held its 43rd Annual Meeting in Colorado Springs, Colorado on June 23-25. The meeting culminates with its Annual Awards Banquet that includes the awarding of the NHSACA Coach of the Year Awards. Eight Finalists from 18 sports and athletic director are recognized for their outstanding accomplishments and service. The final award of the evening is the naming of the National Coach of the Year recipient in each of the sports and an athletic director.<p>The award recipients are evaluated on longevity, professional service, win-loss percentage, championship years, and professional awards. Every state in the nation is provided opportunity to nominate candidates for evaluation for the award. The evaluation process is a two-tiered process; first the finalists are determined and the second evaluation is to determine the National Coach of the Year recipient.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[St. Paul, Minn. - Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Commissioner Butch Raymond has announced the results from the NSIC Board of Directors teleconference call dealing with expansion. The Board of Directors, consisting of the ten NSIC Presidents/Chancellors, voted to expand the NSIC to 14 teams with the addition of Augustana College (Sioux Falls, S.D.), the University of Minnesota Duluth (Duluth, Minn.), Minnesota State University Mankato (Mankato, Minn.) and Saint Cloud State University (Saint Cloud, Minn.). These four institutions, which were all voted on individually, will begin participating within the NSIC in the 2008-09 season.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[The Upper Iowa Athletics Department climbed three spots this year in the NSIC All-Sports Standings. The Peacocks ranked 6th this year, only five points away from 4th place U-Mary and four and a half points away from 5th place MSU Moorhead. Upper Iowa's success is due, in large part, to its three NSIC Championships in Wrestling, Women's Tennis, and Women's Golf. But 6th place could not have been attained without Baseball (2nd), Women's Soccer (3rd), and Men's Golf (3rd), who all had very successful seasons as well.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[Upper Iowa University Head Football Coach Mike Knoll has received commitments from eight student-athletes to attend UIU and compete for the 2008 Peacock football team. The group of eight includes three that started classes at Upper Iowa in January, three that signed National Letters of Intent, and two student-athletes that have signed acceptance letters to Upper Iowa.<p>Upper Iowa is a member of NCAA Division II and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Hicks, Ryan Hudgins, and Dwayne Croker will take the field once again at the H.H.H Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota.          <description><![CDATA[The Peacock football team traveled to Minneapolis, Minnesota for their final game of the 2007 season. Upper Iowa met the Beavers of Bemidji State in the NSIC/Merchants Bank Metrodome Football Classic. Upper Iowa's offense was strong early and staked the Peacocks to an eleven point lead early in the second quarter. Unfortunately for the Peacocks, the Beavers outscored the UIU 46-7 over the remainder of the game. Those Peacock fans that just look at the score will not now how close this game really was before the BSU ran away and won 56-28.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[The Upper Iowa football team didn't see it coming. On Saturday they traveled to Aberdeen, South Dakota for what figured to be a close game judging by how the teams have played in the Northern Sun this season. But the game was anything but close. The Wolves of Northern State scored a touchdown on their first eight possessions including all seven possessions in the first half. By the time the Peacock defense got their first stop of the game on an interception, the score was 55-21. Upper Iowa scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, but lost the NSIC match up 55-35. The Peacocks record is now 3-7 overall and 2-6 in the NSIC, while the Wolves improved to 5-5 overall and 5-3 in the conference.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[The University of Mary came to Fayette, Iowa on Saturday looking to extend their five-game winning streak. The Peacocks of Upper Iowa University had different ideas on Senior Day. UIU honored 13 seniors before the game. U-Mary took a 10-0 lead into halftime, but Upper Iowa closed the gap in the third quarter on a Jay Lehman-Allen Conrad 16-yard hook up and trailed by just three heading into the fourth quarter, 10-7. The Marauders added a field goal early in the quarter, but Upper Iowa stormed into the lead thanks to a 46-yard run by T.C. Hicks. Upper Iowa converted on first and goal from the two-yard line after U-Mary was called for pass interference on a fake field goal. Kyle Hosch pushed the ball into the endzone for the home team and the extra point gave the Peacocks a 14-13 lead with 11:46 to play. U-Mary scored a touchdown on a 7-yard pass from Blair Sandy to Erik Kruse with 8:09 to play that proved to be the winning score and put the visitors ahead for good at 19-14.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[St. Paul, Minnesota was the latest stop for the Peacock football road show that has been away from home three of the last four weeks. Upper Iowa took the field to face the Golden Bears of Concordia-St. Paul. The two teams entered the game looking to climb in the NSIC standings with a midseason victory. Concordia pushed out to a 10-3 lead at halftime, but the Peacocks scored on their first two possessions of the third quarter to take a 17-10 lead. Concordia put ten points on the board in the fourth quarter including the go-ahead touchdown with less than two minutes to play to take the victory 20-17 and hand the Peacocks another heartbreaking loss.]]></description>
