Mitch Walser, a senior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Baseball Player of the Week for the second time. This honor is the tenth NSIC Player of the Week award earned by an Upper Iowa student-athlete this year.
Walser hit .684 for the week as he went 13 for 19, including five doubles and a homerun. Walser drove in 11 runs while scoring 9 on the week. He picked up two walks and stole three bases. Walser finished the week with an on-base percentage of .714 and an impressive slugging percentage of 1.105. Walser is hitting .464 (NSIC Leader) for the season. He has scored 32 runs and driven in 40. Walser’s slugging percentage is .742, and his on base percentage is .526. He is 10-10 is stolen base attempts as well. The senior right fielder is hitting .574 with runners in scoring position and has 15 two out rbi’s. The Peacocks are currently 17-10 overall with a conference record of 9-2. UIU coming off a home stand where they went 6-0 in the midst of an 8 game win streak. The team is currently in fourth place in the Northern Sun. Walser and the Peacocks return to action in Fayette this weekend, April 14 and 15, with a pair of doubleheaders against the Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State. Games will begin at 1 on Saturday and 12 on Sunday. |
