Coach Danker's Inside Snap Shots
Upper Iowa University Baseball, with its Alumni and Friends, has announced their bold plan to build a facility at Robertson Woods Field that will be a monument to the history of Upper Iowa Baseball, as well as serve the present and future players with the tools necessary for development. "Building the Future" will provide a one of a kind, indoor hitting and pitching facility at Robertson Woods Field. It will also include a clubhouse/locker area for the players with a room for Athletic Training needs and laundry facility. Above the clubhouse will be a room for a working office and player lounge that will have windows overlooking the field. "This dream has been talked about for a few years now," said Head Baseball Coach Mark Danker. "There are many reasons why now is the right time." The Peacock Baseball program has made a very successful transition to the Division II level finishing fifth in the Northern Sun Conference two years ago, while posting the second most wins in the NSIC, and second last year finishing just a game behind the regular season champion. Coach Danker continued, "We have a long history of players who have fond memories of their experiences here. We feel the need to offer something to potential student/athletes that other baseball programs couldn't even dream of. I have contacted nearly 100 players from my time here and all have said they wanted to be involved. We also have a long list of Alums from prior to 1990 and many parents and friends who have heard of our plans and want to join in." "Upper Iowa University has an entrepreneurial spirit that isn't just spoken... it is exercised". We've been given a chance to do something special and our people have, and will, respond. In a time when two universities in the state of Iowa have chosen to eliminate their baseball program, we have moved up a level and are able to get the support to do this impressive project." The Upper Iowa Baseball webpage has all the information about the project to date. There are architectural renderings as well as some "snaps" of what the interior may look like. The plan for raising the money is outlined and also a list of questions and answers that potential donors may want to read.
