Howard Thompson, a native of Farmington, Connecticut, graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biology and English from Heidelberg College in 1997 and a master's degree in English (Technical Communication) from Bowling Green State University in 1999. Thompson played basketball from 1993-97 at Heidelberg. Thompson served as the assistant men's basketball coach for five years after he graduated in 1997, and became an Adjunct Professor in the English Department at Heidelberg in 1999. He came to UIU in 2002 and was named the head men's golf coach and assistant men's basketball coach. Beginning in the summer of 2006, Thompson was named as the Director of Sports Communication Services at UIU. Howard and his wife Jen (Northrop, UIU Alum '00) reside in Fayette.
