14th Annual Peacock Golf Classic Related Links
The Athletics Department at Upper Iowa University held their 14th Annual Peacock Golf Classic on June 5 and enjoyed great weather and a great turnout. Upper Iowa alums and friends gathered at Big Rock Country Club to play 18 holes of golf and reminisce about their days in Fayette.
The coaches and staff of the athletics department were strewn throughout the course to meet and greet the participants that played a scramble format in teams of four. For the day, the Peacock alumni, friends, coaches, staff, and university administration numbered almost 140. After the foursome of Larry Werner, Ed Miller, Mark Reinig and Jim Ketchum took the team title with an eleven under, 60; dinner was served by the ninth green followed by some awards, prizes, and a short program.
Speakers during the short program were Upper Iowa University President Alan G. Walker, new UIU Director of Athletics David Miller, and former Peacock Director of Athletics Gil Cloud. President Walker took a few minutes to talk about the wonderful developments on campus beginning this summer including three new buildings. The President also introduced the vice presidents and UIU Board of Trustee members in attendance. David Miller spoke about the accomplishments of the Peacock wrestling and golf programs this year as well as the future of UIU Athletics. Finally Gil Cloud, who is back in the fold at Upper Iowa with the Advancement and Alumni Office, talked about the renewed focus of developing relationships with Peacock alums and also previewed some events surrounding 2009's Homecoming Weekend in Fayette. Homecoming at Upper Iowa is set for Sept. 25-27 next fall.
